Materials and Supplies

Craft Supplies:

  • One piece of Fleece 17" x 7 ½"
  • Thread
  • Sewing Machine or needle

Craft Instructions

  1. Fold the fleece in half lengthwise right sides together.
  2. On one end, cut a 2" slit on the fold. This will be the top of the holder.
  3. On the end with the slit, fold one of the ends to the inside and the opposite one to the outside (just to where the slit ends). Pin in place.
  4. Sew across the bottom and up the side opposite the fold.
  5. Right side out your holder.
  6. You've created a flap which can be folded over once your music recorder is placed inside to prevent it from slipping out.

A little background on the recorder holder:  When my daughter was in third grade she needed a musical recorder for her music class.  We had bought one just two years earlier for our first child.  He didn't have much interest in music.  Needless to say, when he was done with it in class, the recorder sat in a drawer for the next two years.  Naturally, I decided Chrissy could use her brother's recorder.  As I said good night  to her the evening before she was to bring the recorder to school, she suddenly remember that we needed to be sure to find the sleeve that the recorder came in.  The children were not allowed to bring the recorder to school unprotected.  We looked everywhere but that plastic sleeve was nowhere to be found.  The teacher had told the kids if they couldn't find their protective sleeve they should wrap the recorder in a towel.  That idea horrified Chrissy so I got to work and made her a special holder to protect her recorder.  Well the holder was such a hit that a few days later I found myself making them for all of her classmates.  Just another example of necessity being the mother of invention.
